Features

Nagase column-type super-precision forming surface grinder achieves the optimum squareness of each axis with no overhang.
Because of the T-type integrated bed structure, the industry standard today, and other concepts untrammeled by conventional wisdom, the column-type grinder is now widely recognized as a product of Nagase.
Let us introduce four types of machine features roughly classified from the standpoint of the grinding wheel bearing and axis guide.

The machine for ultra-flat and ultra-parallel machining as well as mirror-finish grinding of medium through large workpieces.
Each axis is equipped with a unique non-contact and polyhedral constraint static guideway to achieve ultra-mirror finish, ultra-flat and parallel machining accuracy. Straightness in both the longitudinal and cross directions is enhanced to enable ultra-flat machining of deep and large workpieces. (Submicron machine motion characteristics can be achieved over the entire machining area of 3,000mm x 1,000mm.)
Standard machine for manufacturing ultra-long T dies and straightness gauges.
“Nagase machines are irreplaceable” is what users say for machining of super-precision parts including ultra-long T dies and straightness gauges. The S4 which investigated thoroughly mechanical motion characteristic of submicron is a machine to contribute in the creation of the world reference accuracy.
By taking advantage of submicron machine characteristics, highly accurate on-the-machine measurement and shape fabrication are possible.
The combination of the high-speed NC and ultra-precision linear motor drive enables the crowning shape, other ultra-shape fabrication and accurate on-the-machine measurement. Measurement for machining large workpieces, in particular, has been a problem, but the ability for accurate on-the-machine measurement incredibly eases both measurement and corrective machining

This super-precision grinder is durable and tough, so even with long-term use there is minimal deterioration in accuracy. The covering, mostly made of SUS, retains its integrity over time.

This machine allows super-accurate ultra-surface machining, ultra-parallel machining and mirror surface grinding of a maximum width of 800mm.
The grinding wheel spindle and cross/longitudinal axis guide employ a unique non-contact and polyhedral constraint static guide each. Superior straightness is achieved in both the longitudinal and cross directions, and ultra-flat machining and ultra-mirror surface machining of middle-size through large-size workpieces are possible within a range of 800mm in width.
Fabrication of sharp and flat surface to achieve enhanced service life of dies.
Sharp surface grinding and lapping-free mirror surface grinding of large workpieces are possible. This machine is especially powerful in enhancing the service life of precision motor core dies and precision progressive press dies.

Because of outstanding straightness, Nagase has a good record of manufacturing long die parts such as T-dies and precision machine parts for machine tools, etc. Nagase also uses this model in its factory.

Easy mirror surface grinding.
The grinding wheel spindle and longitudinal axis guide employs a unique non-contact and polyhedral constraint static guideway. The longitudinal table guide structure is friction-free and excellent in vibration damping, and the hydrostatic spindle allows for accuracy and rigidity eases mirror surface grinding.
Sharp flat surface fabrication and straight machining
Nagase’s unique T-shaped monoblock bed structure demonstrates high straightness performance not only in the longitudinal direction but also in the cross direction. Ultra-flat and ultra-parallel straight machining of middle to large-sized (300 – 600mm) workpieces is possible by utilizing high motion characteristics.
Most powerful in enhanced yield of resin dies
Because of high repeatability, ultra-flat and parallel fabrication and grooving as well as nano-order quality, the machine demonstrates its power in its high yield of lenses and other precision resin products. It is highly rated as a machine over competitors.
Long-term accuracy and beautiful appearance
The hydrostatic guide, employed in the grinding wheel spindle and longitudinal axis, hardly wear or consume so that the accuracy deterioration over time is minimized. The covering, mostly made of SUS, retains its integrity appearance even after the elapse of a certain period of time.

Machining accuracy achieved only by Nagase.
Nagase adopts an accurate rolling bearing for the grinding wheel spindle, a high-linear drive system for the vertical and cross axes and a dynamic slide bearing for the horizontal axis.
In addition, Nagase’s unique and rigid T-shaped bed structure, table structure with no hangover and most carefully scraped slideway are all combined to achieve unconventionally high flatness and parallelism.
Not only surface machining but also forming and grooving are Nagase’s specialty.
The abilities for ultra-flat and parallel fabrication and grooving with high repeatability, as well as achieving nano-order quality is demonstrated in high-yield production of lenses and other precision resin products. Thus, this model has been highly valued and differentiated from those of competitors.
High-accuracy longitudinal feed up to 4,000mm.
The accurate longitudinal feed is a major feature. A maximum of 4,000mm is available.
This machine is usable to manufacture precision machine parts for industrial machinery and machine tools as well as jigs and dies.
Covering design on the assumption of a long-term operation
The table, which could be easily corroded due to ultra-hard materials and water-soluble grinding fluid, is protected by a covering made mostly of stainless steel. This design maintains accuracy for a long period of time, which is illustrative of Nagase’s philosophy.

Machining size

The machining size suited to target machining under consideration can be set. Nagase has a track record of machining workpieces with the size of “540 x 250mm (min)” through “4,200 x 1,000mm (max.)”.
Guide

The guide of each axis can be selected from a variety of types such as “hydrostatic guide”, “direct acting rolling guide”, “dynamic slideway” and “ball screw + servo motor” according to the required machining accuracy and function.
Actuator

The drive actuator of each axis can be selected from “ultra-precision linear motor”, “hydraulic servo cylinder” and “hydraulic cylinder” according to the machining under consideration.
Spindle

The spindle can be selected from “hydrostatic spindle”, “rolling spindle” and “dynamic pressure metal spindle” according to machining contents. An ultra-low vibration motor, dynamic balance measurement unit and dynamic balance automatic correction unit can also be attached as optional units.
Control

There are 4 types of control functions such as “Zero control (interactive control)”, “PCnc control (PC-integrated type)”, “E2 control (simple NC corresponding to auto machining and dressing)” and “N control (also useable for 5-axis/6-axis type)” available to meet user requirements.
Dresser

A swing-type dresser, horizontal axis rotary dresser, orthogonal rotary dresser, double cup truer and other types can be installed. Different dressers can be installed on the same table as well (patented).

Options

■ On-the-machine measurement unit
This unit is for measurement of various shapes and pitches of each axis as well as hole diameters. On-the-machine measurement with accuracy of ±1μm is possible when each axis is driven by hydrostatic pressure and a linear motor.

■ Vertical head unit
The vertical head unit, when mounted on the grinding wheel head side plane, enables grinding of the work end plane and eases square machining. The vertical height is adjustable by motor drive.

■ Vertical rotary indexing unit
Vertical rotary indexing unit allowing accurate indexing with minimum resolution of 1/10,000 – 100,000degrees. This unit is suited for machining which requires accurate indexing and rotation.

■ Horizontal indexing unit
Horizontal indexing unit allowing accurate indexing with minimum resolution of 1/10,000 – 100,000 degrees. This unit is usable for grinding of serration punches, gauges and master gears.


■ Dresser & truer
A various types of dressers, including swing-type dresser, horizontal rotary dresser, orthogonal rotary dresser, double cup truer, etc. can be installed.
